On October 23, The Michigan Theater celebrated 40 years a nonprofit. We had a ticketed event that started at 5:30 PM, followed by a member only event at 6:30 PM. At 6:15 PM, Executive Director Russ Collins and WEMU’s David Fair did a live recording of Cinema Chat. At 7:00 PM, Dr. Henry Aldridge gave an organ-side chat about the organ’s history. At 7:30 PM, we had 6 very special guests on stage to talk about how the theater was saved in the late 70s. WEMU’s Michael Jewett emceed, and he was joined on stage by Dr. Henry Aldridge, then mayor of Ann Arbor Lou Belcher, philanthropist Judy Rumelhart, current Board Chair Jamie Buhr and Executive Director Russ Collins. It was quite the storytelling from these incredible people who were and are instrumental in the preservation of the Michigan Theater. On behalf of the Michigan Theater, I’d like to thank the entire community for stepping up and supporting local arts and deeming the theater important enough to save.
