YOUNG@HEART OPENS FRIDAY, MAY 2 AT THE MICHIGAN THEATER

April 25, 2008

The tagline "wrinkly rocker," referring to Mick Jagger, originated recently on the pages of Women's Wear Daily. The term could have been invented for the senior singers profiled in Young@Heart, opening Friday, May 2 at the Michigan Theater.

The documentary follows a New England seniors' chorus for seven weeks as it prepares for a concert of mostly new material. Director Stephen Walker and his British film crew profiled the group.

" The Young@Heart Chorus is a 24-member singing group from Northampton, Mass., average age 80, who spend a chunk of their golden years touring the world and singing covers of songs from groups like the Talking Heads, the Clash and Coldplay. It's safe to say that the Ramones' I Wanna Be Sedated has never had a more heartfelt rendition.

"It's as much of a heady tonic for these folks to take on these unlikely lyrics as it is for us to watch it all go down…We want these wonderfully alive people to go on singing forever, most of all, perhaps, because we know there's no way they can.”
-- Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times

The 2007 film has a running time of 107 minutes. It’s rated PG.
