War, the band of 1,000 hum-able hooks from the 70s to today,
will perform in concert on Tuesday, May 6 at the Michigan
Theater at 7:30 pm. Tickets go on sale Saturday, March 8
at 10am. The concert is part of the Michigan Theater’s
Legends of Rock & Roll series.
War’s hit songs defined much of the 70s, including
Cisco Kid, The World is a Ghetto, Why Can’t We Be
Friends?, Low Rider and Spill the Wine. Founded in 1969,
War was one of the first musical crossover groups, transcending
racial and cultural barriers with a multi-ethnic line-up.
The band has sold more than 50 million records and performs
150 live shows a year. The band is led by founder, vocalist
and organist Lonnie Jordan.
The funk-rock-jazz-Latin-R&B band will be fresh off
a late-April performance at London’s Royal Albert
Hall. Their last Ann Arbor appearance was in September 1994
when they closed the Ann Arbor Blues & Jazz Festival
at Gallup Park with a memorable sunset performance.
Reserved seats are $40 and $25, with limited Gold Circle
seating at $75; available Saturday, March 8 at 10:00 am
at LiveNation.com and all Ticketmaster outlets including
Macy’s stores and the Michigan Union Ticket Office.
Charge-by-phone at 248-645-6666 or 734-763-TKTS.
