Experience Persepolis in a unique context on Sunday, Feb
17 at 3pm. UM Associate Professor of Near Eastern Studies,
Kathryn Babayan, will introduce the animated story of a
young girl coming of age during the Iranian revolution.
After the film, the Iranian history and cultural expert
will host an audience Q&A – in all, an unusual
opportunity to learn about a closed culture that ranks high
in today’s headlines. Professor Babayan studies and
teaches on women and Islamic culture.
Persepolis opens Friday, February 15 for a full week run
through Thursday, February 21.
Persepolis is the animated true story of an outspoken Iranian
girl growing up during the regime change and war in Iran.
It was written and directed by Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane
Satrapi from Satrapi’s autobiography/graphic novel.
Voices of the film mother and daughter are provided by real-life
mother and daughter Catherine Deneuve and Chiara Mastroianni.
