Catch ‘em before they vanish – the Michigan
Theater will spice up its regular film schedule with three
extra films this coming week.
The limited-run screenings include:
• Sunday, Feb. 10 at 3:45 pm, 6:30 pm and 8:45 pm
– George Clooney’s Oscar-nominated turn as Michael
Clayton. The legal drama is up for six more Oscars, including
Best Picture. Must Clooney’s fixer suppress the mad
(or merely principled) actions of his firm’s leading
lawyer in a class action suit? Yes, says Tilda Swindon’s
extremely unprincipled law firm CEO. (Rated R. 120 minutes.)
• Tuesday, Feb. 12 and Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7:00
and 9:45 pm – Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten
reveals the front man of The Clash not just as a legendary
musician, but as a true communicator of our times. British
film director Julien Temple draws on a shared punk history
and a close personal friendship. The result celebrates Strummer
before, during and after the Clash. (Not rated. 124 minutes.)
• Friday, Feb. 15 at 7:00 pm – A Detroit Thing
as remembered by writer/director Anthony Brancaleone. He
winds his audience through a real life fairytale of working
bands in the blue-collar decadence of Detroit. The film
follows the parallel lives of several musicians, including
Kid Rock and the Funky Daddy (Howling Diablos), as they
gig their way to the top of the local rock scene. This show
only: $10 admission; $6 Michigan Theater members.
